Match Report-Bristol Rovers Terrace perspective

The big game for Doddsy, first home match for him against informs Bristol Rovers (who are in a relegation battle) were looking to get a third straight win in the league. We on the other hand had come off a disappointing draw against 22nd placed Crawley Town and were hoping to get a win.

I was on the terrace for this game. And for a Tuesday night match there was a good turnout of over 4000 fans. The terrace was full and the atmosphere high we were ready to go.

The first half was average. Both teams had chances. A cross that seemed more of a shot was the first of the mini onslaught from the blues. The biggest chance of the first half when Cameron Humphreys (who played very well as always) put a delicious ball in the box waiting for someone to get to it. Joe Low was the first to react a header across to the back post for back in the starting line-up Caleb Taylor to tap home, but a heroic stop from the goalie and some great defending lead to no goal just a mass pile up.

The rest of the first half played out with no fuss just the terrace blasting out appreciation for Will Norris in goal and “no noise from the Bristol boys

The second half was electric we started strong and our knocking on the paid of with Cam Humphrys swinging a foot from a pass from Dan Harvie and it trickles into the corner. 1-0 Wycombe. The terrace exploded, people everywhere jumping, singing, laughing closing together, all celebration the same success. It was beautiful.

The second wasn’t that long behind eight minute later Dan Udoh grabbed a second. Will Norris with a long ball to split the defence Udoh took it down ran a yard or so, faked the defender and put it in the corner with the coldness of a inform striker. Thing got better for the Blues when substitute Shaq Forde got a straight red to send him to an early shower with “Cheerio” blasting in a chorus from the fans.

The game finished 2-0 with Dan Udoh claiming Man of the Match. The boys played well with holding midfielder Xavier Simons and right-back Fin Back having good debuts for the Blues. Fin Back was my MOTM. The kid has given some competition to Club Captain Jack Grimmer.

We need to take this win and confidence to St Andrews to face top team Birmingham. COME ON YOU BLUES

New man in town familiar faces out

It had taken a while but just in time Wycombe Wanderers announced the new Head Coach of us as former Sunderland Caretaker manager on multiple occasions Mike Dodds joins the club.

For me this is like the moment where Ian Wright was asked if he was excited to work under Arsene Wenger “Who.” Who is the new man and what will we expect to see from him.

I am writing this on the 12 of February so I know that he has already has his first match as a Wycombe Wanderers boss in a FA Cup tie away at Preston North End and we bowed out on penalties, but we didn’t get thumped, we didn’t concede, and he only had a couple of days with the lads so surely that means we can only go up,

From listening to the “Hero’s of HP12” on Spotify I learned that Dodds is a Sunderland legend and will be sorely missed at the club-he was so appreciated there a player came out on national television and wished him the best of luck for the future. If a club like Sunderland are doing this and he was only a caretaker, then this must mean something. Former Blues player Luke O’nien came out and said that “he is the best coach he ever played under.” This further proves this means something.

Moving on to some last-minute transfers, Wycombe have sent Alex Hartridge on loan to Exeter, Brandon Hanlan on loan to Stevenage and Matt Butcher on loan to Bristol Rovers. The club hopes them well on their spells. On a permanent basis though David Wheeler, one of our longest serving players and one of the remaining Championship players who played for us has left the club. I for one will miss him and his celebrations but he was always destined to move on, I wish him well for the future.

Match Report Wycombe Wanderers Vs Barnsley

King Kone there again as the inform Ivorian proves his worth once again to this club with such an important brace at the death to save the promotion push.

What a game that was and what three pints we have salvaged with seconds remaining. Gareth McCleary proving even at 37 what an impact his experience has on this club with the cross that led Richard Kone to tower over the Barnsley defence and crash a searing header into the back of the net, the scene were incredible, normally Tuesday nights are boring affairs that lead to a Wycombe loss, but not this one, this one was started slow but by the end it was thrilling and incredible.

Wycombe started the first seven or so minutes strong a handful of chances but none that the front three could put away. The first blood came to the visitors with a stunning outside the box half volley which came from poor marking and tracking back from Fred Onyedima which left the left-back acres of space to put it into the middle, a bad clearance header from Declan Skura let the ball land at the foot of the number three Russel to let rip a shot and with a lucky deflection of Skura go past Ravizoli into his net.

Barnsley played the entirety of the fist half like they were playing the last minutes of stoppage time, from minute one the goalkeeper was taking a good 20 seconds on goal kicks and the outfield players were pushing the bar with throw-ins and some audaciously risky challenges from Barnsley’s Marc Roberts. There was only one yellow card in the first half of bad challenges.

The second half started with Wycombe on the front foot with chances in the first could of minutes. The pressure was rewarded with clip on Fred to give the Blues a penalty. Richard Kone dispatched it, and the game was tied again.

The rest of the game played out with a red card for, you guessed Connor Roberts a terrible of the ball slide tackle was met with a red card. Ten men Barnsley held on until Gareth McCleary put the ball, on a silver pate for Kone to head home his second of the game and 16th of the season- now League One’s leading goal-scorer.

It was thrilling but more poor displays from Bez Lubala- he just could not get into the game like with Northampton on Saturday, Fred Onyedima- he was weak in the challenge, no tracking back and just his overall game was poor, and Tyreeq Bakinson- gave away a silly and unnecessary yellow card and his passing was poor which led to several Barnsley chances. New signing Magnus Westeraard made his first Wanderers appearance, did some good stuff, I’m looking forward to him being a regular.
